Thread: Note from Game Director: Removing Ingots

Back on topic, am I the only one that gets a fiendish glee out of how long the ebayers will continue to farm hecks before they realize that ingots were removed? Hah!
I was a fr00b too. I'm not an elitest. Someone suggested that froobs be allowed to have playershops. I said fr00bs shouldn't get what they don't pay for, nuff said. Meaning, I pay for my playershop. Why should they get it for free. Then someone said it would help our economy and add so much and blah blah blah. I replied with my post that I don't think it would. I won't buy their cyber armor, and they can't afford anything out of my shop, so how would that help anything? Nothing elitist about it. Or, how about this argument. It's called an AI city. It has AI playershops. How about having AI to use it then? Sound logical?

not all guilds or orgs or time zones or play times are the same. Just as there are that many happy players there are that many unhappy ones too and some are not and some rightly so. I know that there are some good orgs floating around yet you have to be in the right level and be able to play during the right times to find them. I am a US player and I play during EST hours so as a result my options are alot more limited. I also am from RK2 not RK1. So this changes things too. Rimor has a different setup than Atlantean Server.

Both have their own culture so its going to be different. I can maybe play 4 to 6 hours a day at best and usually it maybe more like 3 or 4 hours during the week I play. Most of the time I just go to some location kill a boss and a few crony mobs and hope I get loot rinse repeat and log after a while and then do it again and hope I get somewhere after a while I usually head back into town and take items and place items in the shop for sell etc.

this.. one of your shorter essays on this thread. has told me more about you than any other posts combined.

you're a lazy 'person' who wants everyone to do it all for you. unless it involves you standing in one place while hitting Q then going back to watching tv.

then you cry foul when those who actually enjoy playing.. which you call "work" get better and richer than you.

the facts are overwhelmingly against you. theres so many active massive guilds on rk2 in the eastern time zone.. i cant count them. and theres many many players who have the same hours of play time you do. me included.

if i really wanted i could easily get a few mil creds a day by running missions... SOLO MISSIONS at that. i'll give you a hint from days of old... "Broken Shores".

and you know.. i've got tons of friends on rk2 who love me so much many have wanted me to join their guilds and me drop mine...
though i admit.. thats prolly cause i'm so ded sexah. phear teh metaphysical powers....

    Great nerf!

I'm no money expert for sure, i'm always poor for the most part, but when i need money it's not hard to get. I'll tell you one easy as hell way to make money, all those highly camped dynas that every 220 OD's you on, well they are there for some rare phats and they will leave anything not worth 30m+ usually. If i need a couple million to pick up heals, ammo or whatever i'll grab all the pattern parts i see laying around. Pattern parts will sell for 70-100k if not more and often require no killing, as they are left to rot. Grab them up and vendor them, hell even players will buy them off you for more than that for symbs.

A month ago i decided i wanted a notucomm coat. I managed to get 250m in just a couple days without touching a heckler, the money is there if you want to look for it.

Nerf everyone's money by 20%? What would that accomplish, it's all relative. If there is less money around, sure prices will drop..but they will drop from the less money you already have. In theory you'd say OMG WTF! 50k for dchest? i only have 2k! Rare items are valuable because they are just that, rare.

You find nothing elitist about the assumption that froobs wouldn't be able to afford anything from your shop, and would only have crappy items to sell themselves? Okay...

BTW, this has nothing to do with whether shops are AI content or not and whether or not I believe froobs should have access to this content. This has to do with your implication that just because someone doesn't have SL/AI, that they must have 50 credits to their name and not be able to judge whether something is useful/marketable or utter crap.

I dunno if this was already answered cause i dont really feel like reading all 12 pages of this, but what is to be done about org city upkeep? if there are no ingots and no real easy way to make money how do you expect us to still be paying 100m+ for city upkeep? i feel that if your removing ingots completely you should remove the upkeeps as well as they are no longer needed to syphon out credits

Edit:: also prices on sl nanos should be decreased, bought like 5 nanos for my trader the other day and it cost me 50m, if there isnt going to be a ton of money ingame, shouldnt have to spend a ton on simple nanos

    Heh

I can't wait to sit around friday and watch the 205 ebay farmers getting really angry that they're not finding any ingots.

There are many plausible avenues to still make money instead of relying on the ingots that won't be here anymore.

Missions for one, I know are good, at my level if I set an RK mission to full cash, I believe the mission reward alone is a lil over 700K (give or take). Lets not stop there.. then there's all the loot that drops, and the credits you get from just looting. Then if you get any of the good drops off of any the mobs, like animas, or a battlesuit or whatever, there's even more money...

So using the advanced settings for your RK Missions may be greatly helpful, set it all the way to cash, and watch the money roll in!

Then there's dyna bosses in both RK and SL, and and... god the list could go on.

So paying that 100m (which I know of no upkeep that much, think the highest I've seen is 48m). I could still say an org will have it easy to pay off that upkeep. The org could even, omg, charge an org tax, which only seems fair since all who are there want the city and its benefits and would like to keep them.

I predict a couple of weeks, where the farmers (who probably don't read the boards, as it takes away time from farming) are desperately trying to get ingot, before they finally give up and go look for new hunting grounds.

    Base result:
Level-grind areas will be open for normal people to gain levels again.
Credits might be slightly more difficult to gain for "normal people" (myself included).

The problem that ingots gave into the economy is that they had a large credit outcome with nothing to spend. Meaning, you gain a large amount of creds without having to lose anything in the process. People would be able to gain more and more creds without commerse coming into the picture and credits changing hands so the creds would dispurse properly, like in an actual RL economy.

People work to make money, they spend that money to buy merchandise, the money spent on the merchandise makes it to the bank and it all starts over again.

With the removal of ingots, cash can start moving from person to person again, instead of one person making all their money from ingots, hording it, then buying something with a large amount of creds that they have.

Our city upkeep is 120m a month and we dont want to have to force people to spend the credits they earned for themselves just to keep our city running

It is not hard to make 100-200m off of a city. They are probably one of the most profitable investments you could possibly make in this game, in fact.

don't see any reason why the number of high lvls in your org cant easily keep city running, we had 1 person in our org who made 1 bill in a month and not 1 cred came from a heck.

    Bravo FC.

Wow that was alot of reading....I never had to deal with the farmers..but it's good to see this being done. I prefer the "Your massive damage destroyed all loot" idea...but with the other problems floating around right now...this is the right decision at the right time. Good to see concerns addressed.

Agree...while I would love to not have to financially support my org...I gladly do so. I like those bonuses and the ability to have a shop and get AXP. Who do I make the check out to?

Nope, not elitist, just 99% true. I was a fr00b too.

I never implied that. You are simply exaggerating. Most fr00bs have nothing to offer me and can't afford anything out of my shop. Nor would they be able to equip/use most items from my shop. This has nothing to do with their game knowledge. It just happens to be fact 99% of the time.

I consider myself to be an average(if not gimp) subscriber. I get by just fine. I don't need fr00bs buying stuff from me, and I don't need them to sell stuff to me. They are already getting plenty of free content. And they can use the market channels just like we used to before we subscribed. Playershops are an AI feature. If they really want the shops, they can pay for them like everyone else does.

I don't hate froobs, and its nice that you are taking up their cause and all, but... I am completely against giving people things they did not earn. Example: People whining that they can't afford AI armor or a dchest/RPB or rare nanos when they've been in this game for less than a year and/or can't/won't put in the time and effort required to achieving the phatz. Same applies to fr00bs. If they aren't willing/able to fork out the dough for SL/AI content, then they don't get it. FFS this isn't socialism, its capatalism. Or, in Funcom's case its a paranoid dictatorship hellbent on silencing anyone that questions thier policies on the forum
