Delete the file and download a fresh GUI. And in the future don't mess with the default GUI.

Never messed with the default GUI. Tried deleting the file and patching, Didn't work, guess I have to download the client again then....

Won't help I deleted the whole folder "Default" in "gui" and replaced it with the clean one downloaded from here... Same error still.

Time to take a backup of "prefs" and redownload/reinstall AO...

Somtimes trying to use the exe files solves this problem, since they are not in the donwload section on the site you can use these links.

This is why i got into the habit of making a complete copy of the AO folder every big patch, that way if it screws up, I can just go back to the copy and try again until it works.

Hardcore, make sure the contents are extracted correctly..
For example, you want this:
\Anarchy Online\cd_image\gui\
Not this:
\Anarchy Online\cd_image\gui\gui\
I have Program > Funcom > Anarchy-Online > CD_image > Gui
I see i haven't done anything wrong, what else can it be that is defect?

Suffering from the same problem, nothing happen after selecting a character and hit play.

Start anarchy > Settings > set to default GUI
close clinet ...
Go to c:/ .. anarchyonline/cd_image/textures/archives ... and delete both .uvgi and .uvga files
Start anarchy , you'll get an error message about those files, click OK
close client ...
Download clean GUI
copy to proper folder.
Start anarchy and patcher.
Worked for me !
