Looks like it was more an emergency patch to fix an exploit rather than part of a planned thing, judging from the mostly unimportant stuff that was patched, and an exploit.
Obviously, the expliot was linked to the ingot icons ... hum ....

They probably had some exploit in the wild since about the time they moved and only now were able to get their development systems fully functional and address the issue.

You sure? Read http://forums.anarchy-online.com/sho...d.php?t=586952. Several players (myself included) have had problems with not being able to set the order of our pets. When you turn the Fixed Pet Buttons on, it switches to some preset default order, not fixing the pets in the order you set. And there doesn't seem to be a way to change this default order.
EDIT: Just tested on my MP, still doesn't work right.
