Thread: All org bots broken since patch

All org bots broken since patch

I asked one of the Budabot devs what was wrong and got this for an answer

"The FC server that the bot uses to get the player info from has been having problems the last little while. Now it's returning blank data for org, profession, and level which is why those don't appear in your online list. It might help to post on AO forums asking them to fix"

Basically, all of the org bots can no longer tell you the level, org, side or pretty much anything else about another player.

I know FC does not support bots, yet they are something we all rely upon heavily for many things - so if there's anything that can be done to fix, I'm sure there will be many happy players.

Not only is this a back end problem with bots but also has broken the People of Rubi-Ka website, bump the thread going here.

The "People of Rubi-Ka" link on the main AO website page is where this data comes from.

I have been meaning to post for a while now (but you know how life gets in the way etc etc) to ask FC why this has been going missing over the past 3 to 4 weeks. ie you click the link on the FC website, and nothing happens. I've noticed it mostly happens close to, or around the weekend time.

So, anybody from FC who can explain this please?

Would be much appreciated by all who rely on this data steam, I am sure.

Same, I have noticed it the past 2 weekends because Sat/Sun is when I usually go to that site, download my org data and clean up my roster/do promotions/etc. I haven't been able to do that for 2 weeks now due to that page timing out altogether.

I have to say that the lack of faction/org information is enough for me to feel like this issue is gamebreaking. Knowing org and faction information, though I never realized it before, plays a significant role when I'm choosing who to buy items from or to add to a team.

    Please fix.

Good time for FC to remove org bots by putting the same functions into the game itself like every other MMO for the past decade.

    That would be very nice.

was wondering when it would finally break. My MA has been 199 for like a month or so (stopping playing ao besides dailies; that time of year ), and the bot last week still said 168. sold a db sleeve to someone last week, and same thing, bot said they were 166, but they showed up and were 220 lol.

maybe its the outsourced company Means was referring to that is/was/might be hired to redo the website and database stuff (assuming database as well because why use 10 year old bread to make a sandwich). or, means spilled beer on server?
wtf happened to my avatars eyebrows?

I doubt any other game has the functionality of the latest Budabot built in. And do you have an idea how many games of the same age as AO are still around today? Yea, not many...

They have better things to do right now than mimic well working bots.

org bots put a constant strain on the database. Without them increased performance and server stability. We don't need either....

More than if it served those functions itself? I highly doubt that...

Also, in my experience, when people try to replicate a third-party tool in-house, the feature set can go so far down the crapper it's depressing.

Most of them. That number is relatively low, simply because MMOs weren't nearly as popular back then.

I'll give you a likely incomplete list:
    Everquest (2 years older)
    Runescape (same age)
Dark Age of Camelot (same age)
    Ragnarok Online (1 year younger)
    MapleStory (1 year younger)
    Asheron's Call (2 years older)
The Realm Online (5 years older)
Nexus: The Kingdom of the Winds (5 years older)
    Meridian 59 (6 years older)
    Ultima Online (4 years older)
    Lineage (3 years older)
Final Fantasy XI (1 year younger)

All of those MMOs are still running and have populations at a similar level or higher than AO.

Now let's go to the list of canned MMOs from around that time:
    The Fourth Coming
    Ultima Online 2
    Phantasy Star Online
    Earth & Beyond

And that's just from MMOs ranging from older to AO at all to 1 year younger. Semi-major MMOs at least. Notable enough to be included on Wikipedia.

The lack of basic UI functions like org lists, player info, etc. is just pathetic.

Even if Funcom decides to move some bot functions like !whois and !online ingame, they can never fully replicate Budabot's functionality. For instance, FC has maintained a strict policy of 'not supporting' third party stuff. You won't ever get help with Budabot or a custom GUI from FC. That said, it's fully understandable since they have no control over third party stuff. So yeah, FC won't move AOSpeak/AOU integration ingame.

Furthermore, I don't think FC will ever have a panel with all the guides in it (!guides) or a way to look up every item ingame (!items). So yeah, you guys are pretty much stuck with our org bots. ^^
