Thread: Monthly (ahem) Development Update - April 30th, 2013

  1. #41
    the NPE screenshot looks like it was ripped from Nova Praetoria in CoH except for the missing AA and the washedout textures

    Statues, lots of windows
    No further significant work is expected to be done on this project going forward.

  2. #42
    well SL expansion does still have the most active player play fields ^_=

    inferno griding/ beast raids botting/DR griding (another posting ^_=), Heckling ,etc

    I may be in the minority here, but this is the most encouraging update I've seen in a while. I know we've waited forever already, but the server merge did in fact happen, the NPE looks like a safe bet and, eternal optimist that I am, I'm guessing the engine will be in open beta by this time next year. Get those done, get AO on Steam, and fix the profession balance by the time the new steam players are hitting endgame, and things are looking up.

    Also, I appreciate, sincerely, that you aren't trying to alter a complex system until you understand it well. The AO focused devs know what they're doing, and they won't release the major initiatives until they are satisfied with their quality. Frustrating to wait, but for the best IMHO.

    That said, as I am an MP, I must insert an obligatory whine about how gimp we still are. It's an old song, but as true as it has ever been. New pet after the NPE would be awesome!

    One thing you could do now for the forum trolls/content locusts is post up images of all the redone avatar heads. I assume they are all done since the Bejing office is closed/closing. To date, we've seen a handful of heads in various stages of update. Just pop off a new thread with links/images of all the heads and it'll keep us busy for a few weeks, at least (and you'll get useful feedback on any really egregarious mistakes before they get dropped into live).

    Also would like a clearer explanation of the phasefront points change coming up and what will happen to the display on Newland lake, if anything.

    Tip #743: As noted in Tip #244, tea bags have an infinite variety of uses. However, there's always one jerk who will want to give you crap over drinking tea. Particularly if in a new town, use this as an opportunity to assert yourself. Any drunken idiot can win a bar fight. It takes a real man to win a bar fight while enjoying a cup of Earl Grey.

    +1 for both of these. I love the design of the phasefront shop but the placement has always been an eyesore. I'd like to see that shop removed completely, as opposed to just being an empty remnant like the old city plots.

    - What happens with Funcom-Points that have been transferred to characters ingame already and that aren't spent yet? Will they go back into the "pool" and at what ratio?
    - The shop in Newland gives a good ingame-look at the bikes so you can check them out before you buy them. Will that still be there after the change?

    1: Yes the vendors will be removed from newland in 18.7 and yes most of the phasefront items will be added to the Itemshop before that time.
    2: Not at this time, we do however investigate if we can get the veteran points moved to the itemshop also.
    3: For paid points/phasefront points: You use them or lose them. Just as a side note: We will unlock some phasefront items in the itemshop for players who had paid points/phasefront points after patching in 18.7.
    4: No, but we are going to add a showroom for itemshop items in the new ICC HQ in 18.7. You will be able to see the phasefront vehicles there.

    With any of the NPE or beyond any chance on expanding the voice packs from NW? I like to surprise people with sound on every once in a while.

    BTW will Phasefront stuff be account wide as it is now(not as such, but points are per character)?

    I'm not really sure if its a good update or a bad update.

    • It tells us what is being done w/o much sugarcoat on it (which i find cool);
    • It tell us what we are hearing for... hmm.... 4... 5 years? And our pacient is on verge?;
    • It show us some nice shinnies from new engine. Its always good to see then;
    • But they also seems to be that carrot in the stick we are so tired to see so far.

    Many will see it only on a negative perspective, because, as I said, we tired to see this sort of update. Atm I remain neutral.

    But I still have hope. I may be part of a few that thinks the restructure was a great news. And I know restructurations usually hurts on first days/months and gives good/awesome things over time. Its a long term way of thinking and only time will really tell if its was a good or a bad move.

    On a side note: While makes sense corporationally speaking, I dont really agree on priorizing NPE and New Engine while keeping Rebalance/Systems change at hold. It's like "YEAH!!! Lets get lots of nubs!!!!" and later "HEI NUBS! Have you learned how to play our game? Really? AMAZING! But sorry guys, we are changing the game mechanisms"

    Bout MP... We wanna some love. We also need some love. And everybody agrees that we need some love.

    It's not just AoC and TSW forums, I think our devs post more frequently than the majority of gaming forums. Only way to top our dev's accessibility on test and on the forums is to play with the live players and do short interviews with individual players to get their opinions on the game.

    That has also occured in the past.

    Honestly, if our playerbase does not know the "direction" AO is intended for by now then they simply have not been keeping up to date with things.

    Anyone that expected anything different must live in some fantasy world. We know what they've been aiming for, for years I don't really know what you guys expected Joel to say. And I'm sure the fact AO has its own dedicated developer's doesn't mean we cannot share resources from the AoC and TSW devs its just our game requires specialist developer knowledge no one else has and would take years to learn.

    I believe it was much as expected. I, for one, don't expect much anymore. Less disappointin' that way.

    Well would this mean Vet pts would be given a value higher than 1 pt each? Something like 1 vet pt = 100 fc/paid pts for item shop.

    I have no idea how you can be of the opinion that finding an odd vending machine randomly placed somewhere is a city is better than claming your veteran items directly from the itemshop. The mail terminals and itemshop is a lot easier to find for new players.

    We would certainly not convert veteran points to funcom points. Veteran points would be its own currency in that case.

    However: We are discussing something which has not even been finalized design-wise and might not even happen. Just leave it for now. I will provide more details if we should decide to do this.

    I hope to <insert deity here> that by this you mean, you are investigating if you can move the veteran points and the shops corresponding items into a seperate section of the item store that runs off vet points, and is not in any way buyable by FC points.

    EDIT:
