Thread: Clon**** Notum Cannons

  1. #41
Good find, Raggy. So what does this tell us?

First we need to isolate that "shipped off-planet" is what the Notum Cannons are doing.

So, based on the Historic Chunk we know each chunk weighed about 0.2kg.

4,500,000,000 chunks at 0.2kg each means the freighter is transporting +/- 1,000,000 tons.

Now, we worked out that each shot sends 570.76lbs into orbit.

570 into one million 1,984,160,360 (1m tons) would be 3,476,348 shots of the cannon to fill one freighter.

14,400 shots per day means that a Notum freighter fills to capacity in 241 days.

Also, that means that a Notum Freighter is transporting 334,999,682,643,915cr (335 Trillion Credits) worth of Notum, assuming they wait for full capacity to depart.

That seems like a lot more reasonable figure considering the size and scope of OT along with the fact that Notum is the most sought after element in the galaxy.

I don't agree that it's reasonable to assume that the first notum shipped off the planet was via cannon. While interesting, I don't think you've made any progress here.

    Gorathon,

The method of getting the first shipments off world isn't really reverent.

Cannon, Slingshot, shuttle, it still took 4 Months to get 1 Ton off-world.

Based on the numbers we have, we know that we can now get 1 ton off world in 24 seconds.

I imagine we can use this to figure out Ship size, but I don't have time to run with it right now, so I'll just post my notes so I don't lose them.

    Density of Notum = 28.5 g/cm3

    using this calculator:

    Converting...
1984160360 Pounds Avoir into Cubic Feet
For substance with density: 28.5 g/cm3
    Result:
    1,115,200.00

a visual representation of the volume. Naturally, it's not being shipped as a giant cube, but this is just to give a visual reference to the number.

If it's stored in crates you need add additional space for them, and spacing around.
Then we should have an approximated volume of the storage area of the ship.

From that information you can deduce that the Solitus aught to be way bigger than the Homo Sapiens since the canon to solitus ratio is not even remotely close to that representation. Even if the package is shaped in a bar/beam.

I wonder though how you get to a volume. Is there any information about the elemental weight of notum? Cause weight doesnt tell anything about the volume. For instance one kilo of carbon is something different in volume than one kilo of gold.

The packages could purely theoretically even be as small as a bottle if the elements in notum are heavy enough

This is what I do in lieu of actual RP now. So, not too much time, just a reallocation of it.

Yeah, the visual is just that of the Notum.

They're not though. If anything, Sapiens are bigger than Solitus if you're comparing Solitus to the Omega. Otherwise, we have nothing to compare the two, and as far as I am aware, no lore to support that Solitus are taller than Sapiens.

See the link i provided on the density of Notum. It was discussed in that thread years ago based on what I feel are reasonable assumptions. If you feel they're not reasonable, we can revisit the issue.

From my math so far, the packages do seem small. very small, very dense. As recommended earlier, they're probably disk shaped. I plan to do some math on this later if someone else doesn't want to do the math on calculating the dimensions of a Disk and/or Washer shaped object based on the known constraints.

The size was a joke sortof. But atleast the ingame size of the notum canons doesnt allow for such big packages to be fired if you were to asume that they have to be inside the muzzles to be fired

Interestingly enough - I'm having trouble trying to make the payload fit the barrel size, because the payload is so small.

570lb payload at 28.5 g/cm3 would look like this:

Will need to, but it's going to be a rather large capsule.

Correct. Annual Payload shown in Cubic Feet.

Try with SilentMobius's post, suggesting 2.3 g/cm3 instead of OneChrisN's 28.5 g/cm3 and see how close it is maybe? They both have about as much info backing them up, but they got wildly different results, and something tells me the 2.3 will make the shipment much closer to the container size.
