Thread: Storyline study!

Thanks for the interesting video, now i understand the story of AO after playing this game since 2005.

It would be nice with a full length 1 hour+ video with the aliens, dust brigade etc, what are they doing on RK, why are there no aliens in SL? I thought aliens are more high tech than humans.

To my current understanding, and anyone who knows the defined facts please do correct me, is that the Kyr'Ozch are also the descendants of the Xan seed, much like we humans are. They had managed to infest another entire section of the universe that is a bit off from our own. When they receive the beacon from the final death of the Beast, they make a bee line straight towards Rubi-ka.

But more like the Xan themselves, they are far more adept at physical evolution than we are. This is why they look variably less human and more insect like - as an adaptation to their own personal expression of the hive mind. Their technology developed differently than ours does. While human technology seems to have developed from mineral (carbon, silicon, metals, et al) resources, theirs was more developed along an organic path (much like H.R. Giger's Alien art) where technology is assimilated through bio-mechanics.

I believe the reason why they are not in the SL's is largely a problem of thought. They may be unable to use the whompahs, or just can't seem to break through to Jobe itself. Or, another explanation is that they have no real desire to actually control the source, and instead would just rather see us as the infestation that needs to be eradicated. Since their minds are a bit out of scope with our own concept of logical thought process, we really have very little to go on other than they just want us gone.

All signs point to a lack of individuality, but at least can tell from their rank and profile that their nano abilities do share a little bit of symmetry with our own nanoprofessions. The strangest one that I have had the hardest trouble finding a link to was the Fixer. Ankari also seem to be the catch all for Engis, Crats, and MP's.

Bubba is correct - The lack of aliens in the Shadowlands is, largely, a lack of thought.

    What we know:

    * The Shadowlands are mainly accessed via the JAME portal in Jobe Harbor.
    * The Shadowlands are also accessed by smaller, inter-dimensional portals from Jobe and Rubi-Ka. (see: Brainstorming Session – Trans-Dimensional/Universal/Temporal Travel
    * Jobe is a floating city.
    * Rubi-Kan Air Defenses can be breached.

With these facts, it begs the question:

Why have the Aliens simply not landed on Jobe, instead of Omni-1, Borealis or Omni-2?

The Aliens could, quite easily, Land directly onto Jobe Platform and siege the city by holding the 3 Whom-Pahs at once and simply overwhelming Jobe. This one action would virtually cut the humans off from The Source, presumably the quintessential mission objective of the entire invasion.

And, so that end, the Human Portal is a floating city. When the Air Defenses are broken, why not just nuke Jobe and be done with it?

Unfortunately the answer to all the questions are: Lack of thought and/or caring.

Take a look to learn a little bit more about the story!

I've also added captions to the video itself for those YouTube savvy people.

The bits in the video are as follows:

"In the beginning, the essence of life, the Source, flowed freely between states. There was no birth and no death, no crossing any barrier.

Somewhere in the Milky Way galaxy was a planet orbited by three moons. Life was created here by the Source. It was paradise, a Garden of Eden, in which living beings co-existed in harmony. Most extraordinary of all these creatures were the immortal Xan. With the metaphysical nature of the world, only evolution could limit how good the Xan were at manipulating their environments. They were without flaw in every way and masters of knowledge.

That is, until the Xan identified the Source and its properties. This knowledge gave them terrifying power and in harnessing the Source, the wheels of catastrophe set in motion. Gone was the harmony and happiness, replaced by dissatisfaction and arrogance and strife. Two factions split from the once peaceful Xan; The Redeemed and The Unredeemed, and a conflict arose that would never end.

They made technology so advanced and magnificent it could explore and chart most parts of existence, but still the Xan were unable to understand the net which holds it all together. In an effort to grasp this final challenge, they built a network of enormous structures meant to reach into the matter of all living things and find the answers to their questions.

The consequence of their exploit threatened the very fabric of the planet and a time came where they realized they had gone too far, but it was too late to turn around. Only by leaving the planet could they hope to save their undying souls, rather than die in the expected collapse of the planet. The factions built themselves gigantic arks, big enough to transport most of them, but not all, from the planet and into the wastelands of the universe in search for other habitable worlds.

When the planet could no longer take the strain and abuse, it died in a cataclysm so devastating it was ripped apart. Any living organism; those that did not board the arks, animals, plants and anything left behind on the planet died that hour; their material bodies destroyed and their souls sucked into the raging inferno of the dying planet. In the process, a piece of the planet’s land mass, the areas origin to the cataclysm, were blueprinted in the metaphysical realm. This pseudo-material mirror of the landmasses has ever since floated in the metaphysical part of reality like a wraith of what was once paradise.

The world was forever changed. The Redeemed and the Unredeemed, fleeing from the wrath of their crib, were reborn into a crude, cold world where they were no longer immortal.

Behind them, their planet was a lifeless rock, and their civilization was left in pieces far underneath the surface. They had no option but to search the galaxy for new homes. Here, they would plant the seeds of life and wait, maybe for millions of years, until their descendants would explore space and one day return to the cradle of life, to their home planet called Rubi-Ka, and they would once more be immortal. It was a goal worth waiting for."

It's definitely something I'd like to do at some point, though as I mentioned above there's lots of literature around the AO website and on the forums if you're curious until then.
