Thread: Doctor Alternate Weapons Support

  1. #1

    Doctor Alternate Weapons Support

    Buffs:
    • Martial Arts Mastery-In line with opening up Pistol Mastery to other professions(now castable by Doctor, Crat, Engi in addition to the original Soldier), I propose opening up at least Martial Arts Mastery to Doctors and even possibly Shades. This is because shades are coaxed into MA(atleast alternatively) with an MA perk line and the ability to use Special Edition Nunchackos. Doctors obviously have support in a Research line, symbiant support, less IP spent for MA, nanodeck, etc. So I propose Martial Arts Mastery be changed to be usable by MA/Doctor/Shade or at the very least MA/Doctor.
    • Dirty Fighter- Doctors have no support for brawl anywhere, and it is by far considered a staple of any character using Martial Arts. I propose this gets updated to usable by MA/Doc/Enfo/Keeper/Adventurer(pretty much any profession able to effectively use melee weapons)
    • Fast attack Buffs- Open these up to Doctors as well as adventurers for the same reason as dirty fighter.(Not as important as the other suggestions in my opinion)
    • Ranged Energy-Open up Ranged Energy Mastery to Doctors, aligning with support in their research and perks

    Perks:
    • Martial Arts:
      • Kung-Fu Master should be updated to be a full fledged perkline
        OR
      • A new Martial Arts Perkline for doctors, or give Doctor's access to Spiritual Master perkline as a group perkline.
    • Shotgun:
      • Shotgun Mastery Perkline opened up to Doctor, since we have Shotgun research and ofab support, but no support in the symbiants or perks.

      Brawling:
      • Brawler Perkline opened up to Doctor/Keeper/Adventurer to give them a damage boost, while forcing doctors to lose some healing capabilities for this damage(would have to lose some heal perks or Specialist Healer, etc)

    Items:
    • Ofab:
      • Ofab Doctor Gloves currently add Pistol/Shotgun/RE all at equal amounts. I suggest Martial Arts gets tacked on there as well.
      • Ofab Doctor Pants currently add Fling Shot. I suggest these get Fast Attack to supplement.
      • Ofab Doctor Shoulder Wear currently adds Pistol and Multi Ranged. I suggest these get Martial Arts and Multi Melee.
    • Miscellaneous Items:
      • Nanodeck- Seriously, why does this have 1hb? We can get rid of that just for cleanliness purposes.
      • Special Edition Nunchacko- I suggest this is opened up to doctors. This would give doctors a nice progression in tl5 up to tl7 without being forced to switch to pistols or having some janky RK weapons that don't do anything in Shadowlands.

    None of these changes are intended to break anything or make anything OP, and suggestions are more than welcome. I admit I am not very well versed in some things(for example the Spiritual Master perkline, it could be very OP on a Doctor, I don't know). These suggestions are all intended to make alternative weapons more viable for doctors. Let me know what you guys think! Also, if you are interested, here are my suggestions for the Support Symbiants: Support Symbiants

    That doesn't fall in line with doctor's historical weapons selection. I'm not trying to get doctor's access to other weapons we previously couldn't use well, I just want us to be given the necessary abilities to use the weapons we are already "pushed towards" effectively.

    RE is already supported as a secondary weapon and ME has been used by docs since SL. As far as "historical" weapons you could pretty much name anything and doctors have probably had a flavor of the month for it at least once and thats the problem. Im personally against buffing any main weapons lines anymore for doctors. Its crippled our weapon selection when SL came out and it pretty much put the last nail in the coffin when LE came out. Now all we have is 98% pistol docs, 1% MA and 1% other and damn if I don't find that terrible and disgusting to go from using so many weapon types to two.

Example being Abandonment of the Xan* being the support version and Kur'Ush Mallet* being the normal. But thats just a dream so we can stop being so cookie cutter, Its not something im pushing for us because a large part of us love our pea shooters.

    I still stand by this.

    Except he was asking ME/RE to be added to spiritual based armor, which has nothing to do with more support for docs.

    I'm looking for docs to have the ability to use all of our "supported" weapons equally. I'm not asking to give us support for something we don't already have some support for, or asking for a "gift" in support for another weapon line. If, for example, you took away all of the weapon buffing from our symbiants and made it more AAO, we couldn't even equip certain weapons, like a kuma tonfa, etc. We just wouldn't be able to balance it without huge sacrifices in other places.

    I ignored the armor part hoping you would get the point I was trying to make. That being both weapons lines can be considered traditional or historical weapon lines for docs yet only RE got some support.

    Well what do you consider supported?

    As I said before it would mean the whole weapon system in AO would need a rework and that I wouldn't push for it. It's just something I like personally. Either way the weapons need to be looked at as a whole in AO, to what degree im sure depends on how you feel about it.

    I'm fine with addition support for weapon specials or MM/MR at al level ranges for symbs but I don't support adding main weapon lines to them, at least not fully (meaning in all 3 spots. One I guess would be ok)

    Looking at doctor's current weapons support(Pistol, Shotgun, RE, MA, HW in research, and Pistol, RE in perks), I'm just looking to get the support more standardized. It seems like AO's dev team, at one point or another, wanted us to be able to effectively use pistol and MA, on pretty much the same level, with shotgun, re, and possibly even heavy weapons on a slightly less attractive note. I just want this to be supported in our perks AND research accordingly, instead of the huge holes we have now. Using Kuma Tonfas on a doc, currently, require sacrifices to keep the amount of brawl and fast attack needed for not OE. I want people to be able to use the weapons we are "intended" to use, effectively. A doctor can, as of right now, equip abandonments, and at the cost of using a "non supported" weapon, they lose some AR, and perk support, however they function mostly unchanged. If doctors are supposed to be able to use Pistol and MA at nearly the same amount of effectiveness, I am just pushing for that to actually happen. We suffer from not having access to a reasonable MA perkline, or the shotgun perkline. It makes setups which "make sense" for a doctor, and most people would agree are a supported weaponline, practically unusable.

    Also, I never suggested any main weapon skill should be added to support symbs in all three spots. We already have symbiant support for pistol and MA, our two "main" weapon lines. I only asked for the "special" skills that should accompany those. And those changes wouldn't only promote MA docs, they would promote 1hb, 1he, 2hb, 2he, piercing, ME docs by giving us Mult. Melee, Fast Attack, and Brawling in our symbs, atleast in some limited support. And this was also addressed in another thread, this thread is about promoting more diversity in doctor's weapon choices by providing them with additional support for the alternative weapon lines doctors are encouraged to use.

    My Froob doc wouldn't complain about a bit more MA support with Mastery nano etc But yeah my other 2 are both pistol. Booooooooring, but too convenient to pass up really :/

    (On a related note, what weapon combo currently gives best doc DD? )

    Ophiuchus : 220/30/80 HAHA etc
    Nahuatl
    :: 220/30/80 Melee 4lyfe
    Khurkh :: 220/30/80 healtankpew
    Transcendence
    Msanthropic
    : 210/26/60 nanostab
    Spidershiva :: 165/23/42 kite? eh?
    Silentmotion
    : 150/20/42 tankthink
    The Union

    From what I've found, pistol. MA could in theory give you more DD, however you have to be in melee range and potentially extremely easy to be killed in pvm, so an MA setup that beats pistol is impractical at best.

    Keep the 1hb in doc deck, or I'll go OE with my Abadonments. =/

    No plans for it to be removed so you shouldn't have to worry.

    I feel sad looking at my MA Doc knowing how cool it was to use Abandonments

    I'm all for changes to Support Symbs to open up more weapon options. I would totally use something cool and unique (Dread Thrasher, Lightsabers, or similar) if it didn't require so many custom imps losing out on so many valuable stats.

    I was going to use a REC3 on my doc instead of silverback because we have perk support for it. Then I ran the calcs and saw I could actually get more shotgun skill by a significant margin even though we have perk support for ranged energy.
