Thread: Jobe Portal Guard Personal Pistol upgrade?

    Smile Jobe Portal Guard Personal Pistol upgrade?

    I've not really enjoyed playing an Assault Rifle soldier, but I really, really enjoy playing SMG/Pistol... Just more fun... Only problem is that the only way to get good FA speed at lower levels is to use Jobe Portal Guard Personal Pistol on offhand... But after 150, that pistol becomes pretty unreliable, due to only having 10 bullets for FA.. Limiting you to an ~11k FA. But I was thinking - With how the S7 Assault Rifle has such a low FA cap with 50 bullets, why not make an upgrade for the Jobe Pistol to make it a competitor? What I was thinking is a sort of tradeskill that would only be usable on the 160 pistol (highest ql), and would upgrade it to a ql 180, then another tradeskill to ql 200 - Tag would turn NoDrop so that it renders the pistol from being sold after TS.. Here is sort of what I was picturing it being, kindalike:

    My Soldier was great DD from lvl 60-75 when I originally got the Jobe Pistol and whatever offhands I could slap on right up to where I switched to Dreadloch Rapier+Jobe Pistol (which is suprisingly great).. and I only switched because Rhat'ata + Envy is even better. (or Envy+Craphander in some situations)

    Upgrades to the Jobe Pistol may not really be necessary for a Profession that has "VERY easy to get into but less damage" in Assault Rifles, "Not as easy but not too hard and better damage" with Pistol+RE or Pistol+SMG.. and then goes into dual SMG (or dual Shotgun? wonder if that's a thing yet with the new pdkp stuffs).

    That said, I would love it and use it for sure if I ever made another Soldier.. just don't think there's a NEED for it right now compared to a few other professions that are supposed to bring decent DD to the table and can't perform well at all in the same level ranges this would be used on.

    Was thinking more of a 150-215 weapon though.. FA is garbage for SMG/Pistol till 220..

    I wouldn't dare call it garbage. Soldiers are good DD with SMG and Pistol in that level range.

    How would your NT compare in the same level range? Or a fixer? Sure the DD goes up past 215 but that's not a bad thing!

    It's basically the adventurer's equivalent, so more or less the same points apply to the soldier's version. I proposed a bunch of quality of life changes, that might not be a big change in the ecosystem that Michizure could make, but some nice QoL changes

    Soldier at tl5/6 range with JPGPP and some kind of burst/fling offhand is one of the top DDs if not the top.

    I was politely trying to say this. Few things can beat a 150+ Soldier. Even a barely twinked one like mine was (just updated gear every 20-50 levels).

    I agree that the Advy pistol needs an upgrade as well... What I'm trying to get at here though, is that there is no way to get a dependable 15k FA using the pistol... Even at 220, this thing will still not hit 15k... There are no other pistols, with the exception of Big Burger, that gives a remotely dependable FA... Comparing this pistol to the S7 Assault Rifle, the FA is undeniably uneven. Granted, it takes a lot more skill to cap the S7 wep to 11s, but the 50 bullets compared to the 10 that the pistol holds is night and day. Really, all this thing needs is more bullets, but since you can wear a 140 at level 60, and the 160 on by 100, using this at around level 200 is inadequate. Let's take a second and assume not everyone is going to 220... There needs to be more options for a better weapon 150-200 for pistol soldiers... I'm not saying it's the worst damage out there, just very uneven within the profession itself (SMG/Pistol/Assault Rifle). The Carbine has reqs that you can nearly put on a level 60, yet has ridiculous damage capabilities. Would like to see a pistol that can rival it so we don't all have to make the same soldier...

    I'll be more clear:

    What if you're (EDIT: I meant "you" as in Soldiers, though I play one as well) just fine as you are and a dual-wield option for a reliable 15k low'ish recharge FA at mid-level is unreasonable and OP, considering soldiers already do more DPM than most in that level range? I leveled without kiting and I was consistently #1 in dumps in the teams I was in without too much effort. The 11k FA with it's relatively low recharge (when compared to AR) together with high weapon damage on regular shots and decent (though not great) perks was enough.

    At 210 you get can choose to get Dreadloch Rapier in and you'll still laugh at most people's DPM. Or you can go easymode and get the Dreadlock Shark instead and it'll be great though not quite as good. (it's less DPM but you have the 15k FAs you want so badly! and it's better for PvP for sure)

    Until 210 you're mostly fine with a high QL KMP and the Jobe Pistol.. and it's not THAT hard to get those on.

    I see nothing to actually complain about, looking at the bigger picture of DPM across professions and the relatively nice progression Soldiers have.

    Alright, well my argument isn't saying that soldier DD is bad. I'm saying the Pistol line needs better weapon support. After JPGP, there are no options for Pistol... Meaning the last "good" Pistol for Soldier, is the one you're able put on at 100...

    I agree, the Rapier can pump out some awesome DD, but.... It's not a pistol.. It's RE, which is another very bottle necked weapon type... But still not a Pistol, which is what this entire post is about...

    You're correct, at 210 soldier has many more options... IF they want to regear their whole toon to switch weapon types.... And, as I said before:

    I know that JPGP is awesome. It is. But like the JEPP, it's the only of it's kind, and for anything over 150, the FA is the drawback... The only problem there is the clip. 10 bullets are the WHOLE reason that pistol needs an upgrade option... The regular damage is great, ect, but the FA needs an upgrade, after 160. If the recharge is changed after the 160, that's fine... Soldiers have plenty of FA support.. Bring the weapon reqs up even more to make it not just something everyone is able to just toss on and go (like everyone can with s7 weapons/kyr weapons)... Make it take effort, but an upgrade nontheless. The whole reason for my post here is about the 10 bullets.

    Soldier has more pistol choices than Crat - a pretty dedicated pistol prof.

    I wish soldiers had a better TL5 Assaultrifle support. Or Smg setup, or RE at any level.

    When you look at it what else is Smg+Pdkp other than disguised pistol fix? Gives you exactly the solution to JPGPP problem.

    Real issue is, soldier has no access to good assaultrifles, that is while smg and pistol are do popular.

    You're correct, at 210 soldier has many more options... IF they want to regear their whole toon to switch weapon types.... And, as I said before:





    I know that JPGP is awesome. It is. But like the JEPP, it's the only of it's kind, and for anything over 150, the FA is the drawback... The only problem there is the clip. 10 bullets are the WHOLE reason that pistol needs an upgrade option... The regular damage is great, ect, but the FA needs an upgrade, after 160. If the recharge is changed after the 160, that's fine... Soldiers have plenty of FA support.. Bring the weapon reqs up even more to make it not just something everyone is able to just toss on and go (like everyone can with s7 weapons/kyr weapons)... Make it take effort, but an upgrade nontheless. The whole reason for my post here is about the 10 bullets.

    So.. what needs more urgent work from the very limited development resources we have? Soldiers getting more options for their already great damage.. or other professions (even DD professions like NT!) getting viable damage in the same level range?

    This is my issue here. I'd gladly have used an upgraded Jobe Pistol if there was one.. I just don't feel there's a NEED for it. Just "something nice to have". And those can wait until things players actually NEED are in-game.

    JPGPP could use an upgrade mostly because of clip size. No reason not to add an upgrade, maybe level lock it to 151+ like S7 weapons. Give it at least 15 round clip but pref 20 at least so you dont have to reload every single FA.

    That QoL change would allow for higher bullet FA's and would make playing pistol sold a bit more enjoyable through tl5/tl6 into tl7
