    Talking Release a Dungeon SDK

    Problem

Recent patches have left alot of people wondering when if ever will new dungeons be added in regular patches. I assume that your builders are working on shadowlands and that they simply cant put forth the time to build such dungeons to quality expectations.

    Solution?

Release a SDK that would allow AO players to design thier own dungeons and submit them to Funcom. Dungeons that meet quality standards would be implimented in the game world. Players would have the pride of contributing something solid to the game world and funcom could even possibly hold competitions and award free play time for people who get thier dungeon added to the game. This option gives players yet another thing to do, especially those hitting the 200 mark, and also free play time for a month for a person is probably cheeper than paying a worldbuilder or however many to design something.

    The Impact!

There are volumes of areas sutible for dungeons large and small in the world of Rubi-Ka, the Medusa city, Cyborg baracks in Avalon, possibly a Dust Brigade dungeon in PW, the Temple in Gtir, varios nano freak cities, the list goes on and on. Giving players a chance to contribute like this both puts AO ahead of any other MMORPG out or comming out (none of them offer player designed dungeons) and can drasticly improve the number of low, mid, and high level dungeons throughout the world of Rubi-Ka. The only thing Funcom would have to do is proof the dungeons and issue a little free play time to winners.

    Playing Devil's Advocate...

Players could leave in easter eggs or backdoors only they knew about, so FC would have to check them pretty thoroughly.

There are several other sdks for other games that use a very similar "room linking" system. All of which allow you to load the map and highlight, entrances, doors, objects, monsters, etc. So i cant imagine that players would be able to hide any back doors. Even if funcom had to look through it closely it still saves them the time of building the thing.

Funcom wont do this because they would get lawsuits like eastereggs.

If a player contributes something of a certain standard to a published game like AO, Funcom would have to pay them for it even if they signed an agreement not to.

Its not long ago this happened to OSI (that made Ultima Online) and they got a lawsuit against them for volunteer workers.

So unless it would be a programmed part of the game, this will never happen, so forget it.
