Article: Refocusing the Community Work

I enjoy reading and posting on this board - a lot - and hope that the community here isn't dispersed all over the place where I can't find anyone. There are alternatives, though. Here's one:

This is pretty disapointing. Since I'm not a hard-core game player, sometimes the only way I can catch up on things occuring in the r/p community is through this board. I hope it continues on another board, and having spent a bit of time at the vault, I'm hoping it will be there.

I remind funcom that Anarchy Online is supposed to be a role playing game... hence a role play forum should remain. If the logic behind this needs to be justifed then i have one comment " OH MY GOD! "

Heh, the role-playing element is one of the reasons why I bought this game.

Now what this does is remind me that this game isn't exactly entirely benificial to my RL job..

(Not that this will force me to quit, I'm just considering it)

Im really starting to come to the opinion that Fc want people to stop playing AO. Actions like this only make to confirm my thought.

No rational company would do this. The sensible way would be to hire actuall gamers to MOD the boards.... like others do. For good work they earn game time or something. Look at the ARK's and how they work... just do the same for a few forum moderators and problem solved. Or is my idea far to insane to comprehend?

OOC((What really concerns me, is that most of the changes in the game lately have been in one direction. Making the game more focused on PvP. Now, they are shuting down an official place for role-playing to occur or be discussed outside of the game. This is an incredible slap in the face for those of us who could care less about beating the crap out of each other in-game.

AO has the best environment for role-playing I've ever seen, but the developers seam to want to take the game in another direction, and this pisses me off.))

Well said Ditzie. RP is the reason I bought AO in the first place and is the best aspect of it that I can continue to enjoy even when I need a break from the actual monster bashing.

In RL, I am a college student, learning how to make these bloody games, and currently experiencing difficulties with too much video games and not enough work.

And here I made such a fuss in my guild about supporting the war from a role playing perspective. I tried to make the casual role players see that we could have fun involving ourselves in notum wars for the purpose of feeling more involved in the community, immersing ourselves in character and actually affecting Rubi Ka in the storyline. What the hell was I thinking?

I agree here. The diaspora of the RP community of AO to fansite forums is not a good idea.

RK-1's RP community is fairly strong, but would weaken extremely if everyone was spread out between whatever site they preferred.

RK-2's RP community is so fragile that it wouldn't survive it.

My god, you'd think the ONE THING they could afford to waste bandwidth on are stories that are developing from their own game.

God I hate IGN.

And to top that all off they want MY CREDIT CARD to give me full functional use of their forums.

You can't even use the SEARCH function on their boards unless you a paid up "IGN Insider".

Travesty,

I really was excited when Notum Wars was released. Nevver and I put up one of the first towers on Atlantean and we were really pleased with ourselves for a few weeks.

But, as the land parcels were scooped up, our small organization became easy picking for the larger ones. Needless to say, our land was lost, and not having a ton of resources, we haven't been able to rebuild. This isn't role-playing, it's whoever has the biggest or most guns wins.

I hope I don't come across as whining, I'm just trying to point out that the mechanics of the game are becoming really messed up for the role-players.
