Thread: All Your Tomium Are Belong To Us

Funcom employee All Your Tomium Are Belong To Us

    Greetings!

My name is Tomium, and I will be assisting Sezmra with her duties as Community Manager. I am a long time gamer, and love gaming communities! Here's a little bit about myself though, so that we can get more acquainted:

    • I have been gaming since 1983 at the ripe old age of 7, playing Lemonade Stand on my Apple IIc

    • I have a very distinctive voice

    • I was in the US Navy, as a Hospital Corpsman

    • I ran a Bulletin Board System at the age of 14 on a 2400 Baud modem. If you don't understand that sentence, you are not old.

    • I love Funcom- Here's a random fact: they ported both Samurai Showdown AND Fatal Fury Special for the Sega-CD.

    • I am known for being outgoing, goofy, and at times, downright silly.
    • I am honored to be working for Funcom, and this absolutely great team.

    • Sezmra really deserves your love.

So, that's me! Feel free to ask questions, etc. as much as you like. Keep in mind that I may not be able to answer some things (spoilers babe!) but will do my level best to help out in any way I can.

    Game on!

Hello there! Welcome to the AO community, and may your flame-resistant suit be QL 300.

What do you like most about Anarchy Online, and why?
Which version of Sim City was best; The PC/DOS or Amiga one?

PS: You may want to sticky this thread.

AO has a rich history and some of the most loyal fans. That speaks a lot to me about a game's playability.

Simcity. Hmmm... I would have to go with the original SimCity for PC (Actually for Tandy if you want to be really specific).

As for sticky-ing threads, consider it done!

    Welcome.

I've been playing AO for about 10 years and I've never quite understood the role of Community Manager as it pertained to this game. In fact, I will say that I have barely seen any activity from past and present Community Managers.

So I guess my questions are:

    1. How do you view your role as Community Manager? What are your responsibilities as it pertains to AO? What are your plans for improving community relations?

    2. The past few updates have pretty much been one way communication from the game staff to the players. In the past, whether we agreed or not, we were at least given the impression that our responses to monthly updates were being read as members of the staff would reply to non-flaming type questions. Is there anything that you can do, as community manager, to make the communication between the staff and players two-way again?

    3. Will the "Your Voice" project resume or is that permanently dead after 1 response?

    4. What types of things (if any) should we, as players, address to you as opposed to going through other existing channels (like the customer service e-mail)?

    5. How long have you played AO? Have you leveled a toon to endgame? If you have never played AO do you plan to play?

    Suggestions:

    - Please start an AO event calendar. Something that shows when events are going to start and end so there isn't a ton of guesswork regarding when special events will take place. It would also be nice if scheduled roleplay or storyline events could also be placed on this calendar as well as an update on the client login screen with calendar information on events that are coming up within the next couple weeks (or even month). This would also be a good spot to include scheduled maintenance, scheduled patches and scheduled patches to Test Live. And not to ask for too much but special subscription promotions start/end would be nice as well.

    - Staff postings. Is there some way for us to easily see all staff postings? Something like a Dev Tracker? If not, will you create this tool?

    - Hot Topics. If you look around the forums there are probably a handful of what I label as hot topics. Maybe if someone (like you) identified said subjects and started a Hot Topic thread all discussion on that topic could be in one spot. At one point there were probably 10-15 actively running threads about multiboxing. The detonation matrix stuff hasn't gotten as bad but has the potential. Doing this would not only unlitter the forums a bit but also make it easy to see official feedback (as that could be included in the main post you create)

    - The Professional program: Is this even still alive? I've been trying to hunt down the professionals for the trader profession (as an example) and I don't see any postings from either of them this year. Nanotehnpoir hasn't posted on the forums since Dec 2012 and Racatti last posted in April 2014 but I don't see any postings from him, going back over a year, that are even remotely related to any trader changes. I have no way of knowing, but if they haven't been speaking on the forums at all then I'm curious as to whether these two are involved in Beta testing the changes impacting their chosen profession. Also, I went looking for the name of the enforcer professional and all I found was a post from Dec 2012 saying the role was still open. There are a lot of changes been made to these two professions and I'm just a tad concerned when the professionals that are supposed to be the liaison between players and staff on profession specific concerns/changes are MIA.

Anyway, hate to hit you with a long post in your first thread but these questions/ideas have been on my mind for a little while.

Cheers, welcome to the game. You're in for a wild ride. Is AO your focus or will you manage foremost the other funcom games, like most of your collegues did since AoC launched?

I can, but let's not confuse "I hear you" with "I will make that happen." Unfortunately, that doesn't always come across. I do want you to know that I actually do read the forums, though I may miss some posts that are not appropriately titled- I don't have ESP

To be honest, I played when it first came out, but hadn't gotten very far. I currently have an Atrox Enforcer, and I am working him up. I have not gotten to endgame yet.

That certainly is a good idea. I can't say we'll have one up any time soon, but I like the idea (personally)

I leave forum topic, etc to the entire Moderation crew and Sezmra. I am not saying this is either a good or bad idea, just that I am not the one to make that happen either way.

So to clarify, you don't actually do anything related to player concerns on gameplay, mechanics, rebalancing, timelines and other communication? Your role is moreso that of a social coordinator or event planner?

I had an idea today to help with keeping people interested.

Give a 100% xp buff for 30 minutes the first time you log on a given day. This should help people log on more regularly, and provide nice incentive.

    Oh and welcome.
