    First Profession Decisions

I just obtained a fully paid account after not playing AO for many, many years. I have the core elements of AO mastered in terms of game play knowledge such as implants, evades, OE, ETC.... My game knowledge encompasses all of RK and SL's up to Elysium, after that I have little to no experience. My current character is a level 84 Opifex MA that is starting to struggle soloing in Elysium. Basically I'm finding credits a bit sparse as I've exhausted the obligatory concrete cushion/treatment rifle/agility rifle blitzing routine. With a small player base there is a very low demand for these items and even when they do sell my pittance of an income manages to afford me store bought implants, up to date nano's, and a viable set of carbonum armour. With this setup I am not able to solo mobs that give a decent XP/hour ratio. I was told to roll and MA because I can farm S10 which I'm not sure what that means. My question is basically what profession should I level as my main in order to have a character that can solo from 1-220 effectively and also be able to farm for lucrative items down the road and support me throughout my career?

you won't be able to solo 1-220 easily on any prof.

mobs become much too difficult to really 'solo' for any real length of time, and damage output will not be enough eventually to really make the experience rewarding.

Teaming will become the only option for progression.

Try ely hecks, or tiigs if you're under 100.

But neither of these will get you any cash.

If you need cash, you're best off going back to RK and working through some areas (TOTW, SOM, foremans, and COH) to try to earn some more credits.

Rolling weapons will always be a valuable source of income.

Around level 80, I believe are zigzag pistols (sense), then at 100 you're best off farming O.E.T. jess pistols (20 int/20psych) which should sell at LEAST 5m for a pair, but I reckon you could manage 10m per pair.

you could also be running AI armour quests for Basic fashion. 1 piece will sell quickly for 5m, and if you wait, about 8-10m for more rare pieces. (get GSF+wolf, go for a run)

Farming low level dyna's - always worth it, around level 75-90 there should be several good dyna nanos that may sell anywhere from 20m-50m (soldier burst (power of three?), and metal hail/metal rain stuff like that always sells fast, any enforcer 1he/1hb/2hb/2he nanos I think are valuable as well, advy possible but less people twinking advies... so beter sold/enf nanos).

Then only you get 100, if you twink up a bit if you're keen you could stay 100 for a bit and offer foremans escorts if you get good at that. Killing lab director solo isn't particularly difficult, but you will need a solid understanding of your toolset and reasonable gear.

Similarly, get into COH, and farm kizzers, pick up weapons, whatever else drops and flog it, kill pit demons and convert hearts to indigo carmine (bio communicator), sell with a necromancer robe (makes reanimator robe) for 10m, they will go like hotcakes.

after 100, then you should have enough money to outfit yourself with a modest gear set.

When I rerolled on a fresh server, my 100 outfit consisted of brothers brass knuckles, spirit focusx2, predator circlet, tier 2 MA pants, miy's tank/melee armour chest, and lya sangi slippers (got lucky with those), gambolling masters wear on back.

That setup cost me nearly 0 credits with a bit of planning and farming the appropriate gear and bit of help from friends I'd made. Along with some implants I was on a roll to level. I think I even prepaid a Dchest for when I hit 120.

At 125 I stopped at IS and got a lot of frooby teams but powered through until I hat a Fist of dominator and Might of the revenant.

This is outfitting on the cheap.

Next stop, Adonis, brain quest, and after that it's cruisy to 150.

At 150, that's where you start hitting S10, and start your quest for AXP. bring 10 empty bags with you and collect anything green (clumps, power cells, fuel cells) and black (relays).

If you're just starting out and short cash, sell some relays, if you're smart, though, hold em, and build them into tuned relays. then make some friends or park on LFT for a team to pop relays. Loot your corpses, and hopefully you get some bots.

Once you got bots, then you start replacing your weak armour slots with CM/CC. CM is better since you can sell supple and make a piece of CM for the same price. Get a mostly full set of CM, a few slots are fine for other stuff:

hat: CM/CC or pred circlet or sureshot glasses
chest CM/CC or Dchest or Ofab if you're really poor
gloves: CM/CC or lamnidae gloves, bothers brass knuckles, or butcher gloves
sleeves: CM/CC or spirit focus until you upgrade
    pants: Ofab or T2/T3
feet: CM/CC or slippers of screaming, lya sangi slippers, boots of dancing king

CM is combined mercenary: good QL's to build for Opifex is: 203/204 if you're low on twinking gear, 213 if you're long term planner, 223/224/225 if you're a glutton for punishment, and want maximum resale value

CC is combined commando: good QL's for CC are 223/224/225, but be warned, this will consume your life if you try for CC too early on without appropriate backing/finances/knowhow.

once outfitted at 150, you're ready for the grind to 200 and beyond.

Excellent advice there, i also often see ppl with too much cash spamming to buy rollable nanos for 10m+ so if you can master the art of clicksaver that might boost your inflow fairly quickly.
Don't you just hate this kind of ppl

    Good advice above.
I would add few more things:

Opifex MA is the best first character to play in AO, so you have made the right choice.

For smooth leveling always remember to do all daily missions every day you play. It is especially important to do Alien Daily for AXP as this is the best AXP/hour and you should always try to have as many AI levels as possible (and not leaving it for "later")

If you are really poor and struggling you can "clean GMI"
There are always some ppl who are too lazy to remove "cheap" (cheap for some means 100k for other 1m and for some 10m) so they just change selling price to 1 credit or 1000 credits.

Buy most (you ll learn which to skip) of those items and sell with profit to shop terminals.

Do Battlestation daily. Not for creds directly, but for victorypoints for ofab free and good armor.

Get mission in Borealis, see ao universe for location, and go queue up at the start of your playsession. Sometimes it takes a few hours to get in if there are few players in your playerrange, but a you finish the mission no matter if you win or lose, and get daily xp and daily VP reward.

Good advice but id suggest leaving the MA at 150 for s10 and roll a new toon after you make some decent creds. S10 is one of the best sources of credits, itd be wise to have a toon parked there to feed your credit need.

That is one truth, another truth would be that having a 220 MA gets you all the solo farmable stuff you can eat and you can do raid bots for points to share with alts, not all MAs are super awesome DD but the baseline is pretty damn high and i think most people respect the DD output of the MA.

Honestly don't be afraid to use the OOC chat channel, you would be surprised at how many people just sitting around doing nothing in a major city would be willing to help a low level new player do something simply because they are bored.

Hey all thanks for all the great info, I followed what you have said to the T and am currently at 150 in S10 with the following setup http://auno.org/ao/equip.php?saveid=165461 give or take a few things. I have farmed many relays, tuned, and killed the bosses when I can find a proper team. I currently have 4 Arithmetic bots Below QL140 and 1 Strong at QL198... Finding a team to pop s10 pocket bosses is like pulling teeth and I was wondering if it would be possible to roll a couple froob chars like a doc, enf, etc, to help take down the s10's bosses myself? Any suggestions are appreciated

Froobs can't enter S10, so no luck there. A second paid account might help, but that's a whole different story.

Have you subscribed to neutnet yet? Neutnet is a player ran bot to help people find teams more easily, do /tell neutnet !register (I think that is the command anyways, do help if that doesn't work) and register with the bot so you can see other players announcements and make your own. I see s10 bosses teams on there every now and then so it is worth a shot.

Really like this thread... great advice!
They are essentially a global message system for anyone signed up for them.

Really handy, people form teams on them, sell loot, ask if anyone wants to PvP, say when a battle station is running or about to be running, form teams. And the best part is that if you subscribe on all your characters you can always tell what is going on, say you are just doing some dalies on a low level alt, and someone decides to advertise that they are doing pande, or s10, or whatever. And you were looking to do those on an alt, you now know those are going on and relog to a different character if you so desire.
