The New Game Engine
I am just as Rich as Arti and I want to know when the game engine Going live and if it Not Soon i am going to Leave AO as well This game is Geting the wrong patches and Add-On's I am going to say this One TIME ( AO ) = ( ARK ) = (FUNCOM) Get your ass in gear..... And post a date for the game engine And you need to Post The name of it thanks

The only estimate we've heard is November.
Just 4 to 8 weeks away, depending on which side of November they planned.
That wont happen of course. Bank on 2011.

I do not Know Arti but (THEY) Have moved to VS2005 which Is compatible with the engine they'Re working On..... the name Of the engine Is Dreamworld you're Welcome

problem is that the new models have a higher poly count and bigger textures and that would probably kill the old engine...

The old engine is unkillable. If they put the new models in today, it wouldn't have a negative impact on anyone. Might even slow the rate of /quitters. At least buy them another month.
Proof of unkillableness: Go spawn 500 unicorn ships with an FXscript. They render just fine.

More problems in the game than eye candy graphics. Gameplay > GFX anyday. Anyways even with the new engine the appeal will be lost pretty quickly, maybe not for new blood but for people that have been playing a while..... we saw past the low poly enviroments ages ago. i still think this engine looks reasonable considering the depth of the game.
No rush fc, i'd rather have a game that works than one crashing ever few moments..... oh wait i think i messed up :P

While it is somewhat about eye candy, it comes down to the fact AO does not take advantage of modern computers with its current renderer. Some of the newest technology can't even run the game at all.
Switching to a new engine is important for the long-term life of the product, but I fear they're three years too late. They've been working on a new engine for AO since 2006; they started in Ogre. They could have saved a ton of effort, time and money and have the engine out by now if they had laid in parallel with AoC while the AO engine was being improved to run that game.

Looking at the problems AoC had at the start, including the engine... no they should defnitely not have been out with AoC.
But yes, they "wasted" a lot of time on ogre, but that's easy to say in hindsight. It might have been the "right" desision at that time.

Keep in mind that the AoC engine has changed over time as well. When they first looked at upgrading the AO engine, the AoC engine was considered, but it was deemed a more difficult upgrade than the Ogre engine.
Hindsight is 20/20.
Think of it this way, with many companies if the upgrade had failed/stalled, that would have been the end of it. FC has enough faith in AO to start all over with the engine upgrade to the AoC engine. This is not a cheap process, FC is investing a lot of money into it.
