Hello everyone,

Found out about the game on massively.com when they published their article on the new graphics engine. The game piqued my interest so I decided to come check it out.

Created a Bureaucrat named Charkov, I was not given the option to pick a server, and I cannot seem to find what server I am currently on, so if someone could explain that to me I will update the post accordingly.

Was wondering if there are any active newbie friendly groups out there that wouldn't mind a new face hanging around asking questions about the game.

There's only 1 server.

Like Eve. Except AO's population is probably a bit smaller than Eve.

Crat is a good toon to start with, learning curve will be tough, but ask many questions in game and on forums to make your progression easier.

Also, be sure to find a Org/guild as that will help you immensely. (check recruiting section of these forums)

The new graphics engine is currently only available in the closed beta. It will come soon™ like everything else.

Never hesitate to ask questions. As soon as you leave the starter island you'll get chat channels with "OOC" (out of character) in their name. They are dependent on the area and your faction but please use them and you'll get help.

The probability that you've been in touch with Anarchy Online at least once prior to actually starting this account is very high and nothing wrong with that. Great choice for first profession bureaucrat, you will love it.

Welcome to Rubi-Ka!

There's a lot to learn but we have a pretty solid community. There's two pieces of advice I give to every new player I meet:

1. Develop a habit of shift-clicking *everything*. This is your primary means of learning about the world and it takes a while to remember you can do it to virtually anything - objects in inventory, players, mobs, terminals and in-world objects... try everything!

2. Invariably in your AO journey, you will meet someone who will try to tell you that you're playing AO "wrong." Your skills aren't optimal, you don't have the precise gear, you didn't twink hard enough. You get the idea.

Ignore those people. Build your character the way you want. Max swimming if you want (although do so with the knowledge that the skill is going away next patch, so that may be a bad example). Fun is the goal, not perfect numbers. I have "wasted" IP on every character I've ever made but I don't regret a single point, because it was important at the time.

Anarchy Online's one of the best games ever made in my opinion, even if it's in a bit of a slump right now. We've still got a great community and plenty of helpful players to show you the ropes!

The slump's beginning to turn around, I think. I've seen quite a few new players and several freshly returning players in the last month or so since I resubbed (yeah, I'm one of the returners). This was before the Massively piece, even. Once the issues in 18.7 get ironed out the new patch will drive a pretty big influx as well, I think.

This is a game I ve been playing for over 10 years and still love it.
Crat is my favourite profession, I have 3 Crats: 1-level 220 for endgame content, 1-level 200 twink for S7 and DR, and 1-level 100 froob for helping other alts in Foremans.

AO does not have the best graphics and is still quite difficult game (with high learning curve), but it has a great comunity and even after 10 years of playing I can learn new things.

If you have any questions/problems post here or send me ingame tell (even if I am offline) and ll be happy to help. Names of some of my characters are in signature.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I haven't been able to play since my account was banned for some odd reason, hopefully they will reply to me soon. Oddly enough my payments where marked as approved last night and I was able to play, but now one says failed and I am banned.

Were you using a proxy at the time of payment? Happened to me once because the location of my I.P. Address did not match that of my card. Got one heck of a fright when my account got 'banned'. Funcom has a live chat and support system with a decent track record. You can find them at register.funcom.com and they should be able to help you out.

Well I tried live chat. They said there was a problem with my payment and my account was blocked, but they cannot undo that over live chat, so I need to wait for an account specialist to unlock my account. Sadly they said those folks do not work 24/7, and it being close to the weekend I may have to wait till Monday before I can play.

Oh well, first world problems, hopefully it gets sorted soon!
