    *1 Starting out*

When you first start the game you will be asked to pick your breed and gender.
Then, you may alter your appearance. Next you will be asked to select a
profession. If you want to be a keeper or shade, you will have to start your
new life on the floating city of Jobe. Otherwise, read this guide and follow
me to the shuttleport. Walk along and talk to the people standing around inside
the starter area, they do have some good things to tell you. Some will just
make idle chit chat and others will attempt to lean you towards one faction
    or the other.

When your ready, Go through the door that says ICC Shuttleport.
When you zone, you will be in your transport ship and on your way to beautiful
Rubi-Ka. Following some events youll find the ship has crashed landed and you
need to find your way out of there fast! Exit the room you are in and turn
left, you will see a ladder at the end of the hall, walk up to the ladder to
be zoned outside. When you emerge from the wreckage, you will be greeted by a
sexy blonde nurse (god I love you devs). She will ask how you are doing and
tell you briefly about the island. She will tell you about a man named Thorn
that you should try to get in contact with soon. Leaving her, swim across the
lake and make your way to the beach.

Welcome to Newb Beach! First things first,
lets press the "i" key to open your inventory and equip your starter weapon.
You can equip it by right clicking on the weapon. You will also want to press
"u" and raise your stats right from the get go. I wont go into what stats to
raise ect. ect. thats what your Professionals programs are for Some
professions start with a Nano-crystal in their inventory, right click that to
"upload" it to your Nano library. You will also be given a Treatment pack and
a first aid kit. You can use those by right clicking on them once you have
yourself targeted (F1). The treatment kit can only be used if your are not in
combat and are sitting down (x). Now, go around and look at some of the mobs
and talk to some of the other newbies who are just starting like you.

You can talk to them by pressing [Enter] your text [Enter]. You can change channels by right clikcing in the chat box and highlight "Talk to channel". The basic
premise is to kill things to get experience points (xp) and get a new level.
Once you get a new level, you can raise your stats (hp, nano, weaponskill ect.)
There are several types of mobs found in the newbie alien area, ill point them
out below. First though, I need to tell you about how Anarchy Online's /con
works. When you click on a mob, its HP bar will be a color, ranging from grey
to red. Grey is very easy, Green is easy, Yellow is equal to you, Orange is
difficult, and Red is "Impossible to kill solo" (or so they say /wink). You can
find out what level a monster is by clicking on it and pressing the "t" key.
Now that you have your weapon on and are ready to fight, lets look at the mobs
you will find in the alien playfield.

    Bosses.

There are seven bosses on this playfield that I have found. Bosses are
different than the regular mobs in that they have damage shields and a
ton more hp. They hit harder too, so be careful before taking one on.
The first boss you will find is a snake boss, he will be to your right when
you first get to the island. There is a huge leet boss, he sits in front of
the tunnel. Next to him on the left is the salamander boss, running further
down shore youll find a Malle boss, and a Rollerrat boss is over there too.
There is also a nasty robot boss on this island. Look for the broken gate,
to the left of that there will be a dock, walk all the way to the end to fight
    the slave robot boss.

    __________________________
    *3. Shops*

Vendors are scattered all across this island, allowing you to upgrade your
armor or weapons and allowing you to sell your junk for credits.
Here is the list of Vendors.

    *Antonio Stacklund*
Go through a tunnel and up the ramps and he'll be at the very top
    Armor supplier

    *Omni-Tek Equipment Vendor*
    Near the teleport room

    *Clan Equipment Vendor*
    Near the teleport room

    *Newcomer's Nano Programs*
Can be found to the left of Antonio
Sells starting Nano's for each class for 1575 Creds

    Great help for the newcomers!

I would like to add you press "Q" to toggle combat mode and start attacking, as this is not immediately obvious. Press "y" to toggle your shortcut bar, and activate it with #1-0

One other thing I should add is adjusting your preferences. The GUI is somewhat customizable and many game options as well. hit "f10" to access the options menu.

If someone should appear near to you with a green name above their head, they are here to greet you and to acclimate you to the world, and answer any questions you may have.

As Royal indicated, this mob is called an Island Reet, not Tropical Reet.

A tip is to split the *1 Starting out* section into paragraphs, as it's a lot easier to read a properly formatted text

It's not my intention to critisize, I'm just pointing out mistakes so they can be corrected.

If you are a new player it can be very 'confusing' if the information is incorrect. Trying to find mobs that don't exist can be very frustrating!

It's definately a great starter guide for new players, so keep up the good work. There are a few other similar guides on these forums, some better than others, and some more aimed at people starting Alts, than the new guy.

The thing is - it seems a lot of the new players can't be bothered actually reading the fourms. So you still get a lot of the same questions over and over.

When you go through the hole in the fence, if you keep going straight you will see a platform extending out to the water. On the right is the ramp down. There are spiders all over this area and another Robot Boss.
    Ravenx - lvl 175 Doctor
    Kithron - lvl 49 Trader
    Sublimator - lvl 54 Nanotech

Reets also drop other Rings of Power besides melee.
And in addition they (rarely) drop IQ rings that add 1% to your XP gain.

Also remember that it is possible to wear two rings of the same type to gain the combined benefit. Or wear two different rings to mix the boosts to suit one's playstyle.

    Great starter guide.

Perhaps mention an extra couple of points?

    1) Sided Vendors (clan/omni) buy things for more money (I've seen up to 25% with my engie alt) after you have signed up with their faction. (Take me to the Shops's up from 160 creds to 200 creds each)

    2) There are 2 robot bosses - one on each pier at the back of the island.

    3) I've heard of Kyr'Ozch (or however you spell it) bosses, don't know if these are for real though...havn't checked since I got AI.

    4) Maybe make note of the location of the Sided Quests NPC;s - IE unicorn commander and nurse/doctor.

Otherwise, great guide. Keep up the good work. I'm gonna macro this url for answering /tells on newb island along with some of the other's I've found.

    Cheers.

I agree, very well done. Better than what I've done - which is nothing! I've done newbie island several times, and I think you did a great job of this.

That's one of the things I noticed on Newbie OOC, which has lead to my current project, a newbie bot (See the 'Questions You Has As A Newbie' thread for more info). My hope is that newbies can be referred to the bot, which as an in-game resource is much more accessable, especially to players who have just started the game and may not even know that there are AO forums yet.

Oh man, that sounds great. I think fc should help contribute to that project, it would help out all the new players immensily. The /help command ingame is good, but its a bit outdated these days with all the new additions n such.
