SPARTA : Clearing up the confusion (again)

    OOC:

Given some recent events, both IC & OOC, it seems timely to repeat a number of often stated and restated series of often forgotten facts regarding our organisation.
    • SPARTA is an Omni-InternOps affiliated organisation.
    • SPARTA has nothing to do with the 'Official' Omni-Pol.
    • SPARTA has nothing to do with the 'Player-Org' Omni-Pol, aside from the rather important fact of being allied closely via the Omni-Tek Security Council.
    • SPARTA does not investigate 'crime'. That is Omni-Pol's brief. (both Official and Player-Org)
    • SPARTA has no interest in 'crime orgs'. That is Omni-Pol's brief. (both Official and Player-Org)
    • SPARTA is an intelligence agency, not a police force.
    • SPARTA in-fact often breaks the law as many intelligence agencies do in RL, in order to achieve the mandate handed down to them from their superiors - the defence of the corporation (state).
    • SPARTA's mandate is to protect the corporation from threats - not to police 'the law'.
    • SPARTA is ALWAYS in-character, always. That grief, those insults, that surly behaviour, it's all in-character.
Why am I saying all this? I know many amongst the RP-community here know most of this, but even more are told and seem to forget it - especially in times of conflict and high emotion.

When I or my people act disinterested when you come to talk to me/us about X doing this 'crime', or Y going down, it's because IC I/we don't give a hoot.

When I or my people act rude, surly, abusive, oppressive, sinister, threatening and so on... it's because we're IC, which for us means we're behaving something like... hmm... a cross between MI5 and the NSA/CIA/Gestapo. Yes. The Gestapo. Yes, that Gestapo.

    But it's always in-character.

And just to re-state, in-case anyone missed it - we don't police the law.

To quote from our age-old recruitment details:

    SPARTA
    Omni-Tek Department S1

    Mission statement:
To ensure the security of the Omni-Tek Corporation of Rubi-Ka against all threats, internal or external.

    Who are we?:
Department S1 (or SPARTA) is Omni-Tek's 'security-intelligence' department. Its function is to ensure company security from internal and external threats such as terrorism, espionage and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, to safeguard its economic well-being from the anti-competitive actions of corporate rivals, and to act in support of the various law enforcement departments in the prevention and detection of serious crime.

[insert Bonefish note: 'serious crime' in this sense refers to assisting 'Pol' operations in such matters as anti-terrorism etc]

SPARTA's key responsibility is for 'security-intelligence' work, which is defined as; collecting and disseminating intelligence; investigating and assessing threats, and working with others to counter them; advising on protection, and providing effective support for those tasks; and where necessary conducting operations independently of support, to further the company’s security interests as the director's office sees fit.

In addition, the department provides security advice and intelligence briefings directly to the CEO’s office to help reduce the company’s vulnerability to all threats. An Omni-InternOps affiliate, SPARTA serves, supports and enforces the direct orders of the CEO's office with unquestioning loyalty.

The department's core officers began arriving on-world 8th September 29475 carrying orders from the Omni-Tek Corporation on Omni Prime to form Department S1 and undertake the above mission.

In February 29476 SPARTA became one of the founding members of (and the initiating driving force behind) the Omni-Tek Security Council (OTSEC).

    Who are we?: (OOC)
SPARTA operates a 100% in-character role-playing policy. This means we play 'in-character' every moment we are in-game, living our character's lives, occupation, personal lives, and everything that goes with them without slipping 'out of character' at any time.

We use a rather unique style of 'free-form' role-play, without GM control. Our stories, events, plots and sub-plots are either run by select players who know just enough of the plot to carry it along, or by the character at the centre of the role-play, or (usually) by events in-game such as the actions of other organisations, individuals, or members of the ARK Events Team. This role-playing depth ranges from small insignificant subjects, right up to some that are part of the main AO storyline.

    Thanks for listening guys!

    I have no badges!

But I do have several collections; I have a box full of little fingers, and a necklace made out of ears.
