The Newland Council Outrage
Omtron
Newland City -- OTPC -- February 2, the Newland Council attempted to outline its plans for the future of Newland City. The meeting managed to cover all important areas any weak government organization would have: stalling, talking, fighting, confusion, wrapped up with more talking. A less than successful showing from the Newland Council.
Any decent bureaucrat knows the first rule to making a public statement: show up on time. After waiting around in a Newland bar for what seemed to be an eternity with a drunk FJRK Editor and over-paid IRRK Reporter, we finally had the chance to hear from the Newland Council through their representative named Tharno.
Tharno got to the point that the J.A.M.E. association would be hired to help the Newland Council. Joined with him was, Cygwin, a J.A.M.E. representative for the meeting. Roughly as soon as Tharno made his announcement there was a guest:
Loren Warr: Thanks for the invite. Someone feel like telling me what this situation is? Tharno?
I had the pleasure of watching the J.A.M.E. representative buckle at the knees here:
Cygwin: You never said she would be showing up to this meeting Tharno.
Tharno: The Newland City Council is relieving you of your guard duties.
Loren Warr: Your what? Tharno You don't know the mistake you are making here.
Tharno: The parties of the Council have agreed.
Cygwin: This is too much Tharno, the cost of our services has just risen.
A little heat comes into play and all the sudden its a price spike? What sort of business is this J.A.M.E.? Are they in the market of cowarding? The conversation continued:
Loren Warr: Agreed? Agreed to turn Newland over to the Clans!
Tharno: Your last payment has been withdrawn.
Loren Warr: Your actions are those of cowards. Traitors...if you go through with this.
Tharno: You are in no position to call the Council cowards.
Loren Warr: You might as well just hand over Newland! Tharno I will give you one chance now. You are smart and I know you will make the right decision...
Loren Warr paused a moment...
Loren Warr: kill them all!
Cygwin: Run!
Loren Warr: You are all traitors now!
Arlson: Tharno, ya might wanna get clear, or get the authorities in here!
At this point some thugs began attacking the bar patrons. In typical cowardly Clan fashion Arlson the Editor-In-Chief of the FJRK spent the entire time of the battle crawling on the floor scared to death. I am pleased to say that these thugs were no match for the superior Omni-Tek armor and medical personnel that were on hand. Once the thugs realized they had no chance of harming the bar patrons, they fled. Loren Warr had gone too.
The conversations began again...
Cygwin: We will be increasing the cost of our contract, to cover any extra securities [due to] Loren Warr.
Tharno: Newland will deliver the money and militia.
Cygwin: Tharno, training was never part of our original negotiations. That will cost extra.
Tharno: The price isn't important, we have to guarantee safety.
Cygwin: Tharno, price is very important. I'm estimating our initial cost to be 700 million credits, new additions included.
Tharno: That is way more than we first discussed Cygwin.
Cygwin: Keep in mind this is only a down payment, a bi-monthly payment of 400 million credits must be paid.
Tharno: This isn't acceptable.
Cygwin: If Newland was satisfied of the efforts brought by Loren Warr and her mercs, then they probably would have never approached J.A.M.E.
Newland seeks self-protection, but if the Council is left to do as they please I see nothing short of another Clan town on the map in the future, what else would it be? It doesn't seem to be under ICC control, or Omni-Tek control, so it must be Clan? Loren Warr isn't the best solution, no, but Warr is better than having a Clan-type run town.
I feel the best course of action is to leave this to the professionals. Omni-Tek not only has the manpower and resources to guard and operate Newland in a neutral manner, but should conflict break out with some group, say Cyborgs or Dust Brigade, at least Omni-Tek has more troops and resources to support. Leaving a weak lined defense of guards is asking for trouble in Newland.
Warr's time is coming to an end, the real big question is now: what is next in store for Newland?
