Yeah except the SWTOR was full of /yawn. I couldn't care less about the webcomic...BUT...it sounds like we are going to find out what the final 2 classes are next week according to an article on some website someone posted on the SWTOR forums (sorry, I don't remember what site it was!).

When it comes to MMO's getting a graphic overhaul, I think there is one game that leads the way
I can but hope that one day AO, will have a chance to see such graphics.
And for you tards out there, yes I know you can't directly compare EVE and AO gfx wise, 2 totally different game engines with different purposes.
However aesthetics transcends such things, EVE is a beautiful game stunning to say the least, I wish the same for AO
It does look beautiful but planet graphics aren't the best comparison. The techniques and requirement between planet surfaces and geometry is huge.
For planets you have simple geometry and can use techniques like surface drawings, bumb- and parralax mappings, pixel shaders and generic overlays. Impressive indeed but the geometry remains simple.
With 3D models, especially in MMOs it becomes more complicated. Unlike coded techniques to simulate surface each model has textures, lots of them too for different equipment. The geometry with characters around is more complex and can't usually be recyled at runtime as it's uncommon to all have the same gear.
I'd like to look AO looks as beautiful as EVE, but unfortunately that's not realistic. There are way to many textures and models in AO to replace them all and it has to be done the manual way and can't just be a replacement of the surface drawing component. Doing so would require a team of designers on par to developing a new game.
