Thread: Outdoor FPS went horribly down

  1. #21
    AMD 64 3000+
    Radeon 9800 Pro

HUGE drop in FPS, everywhere. especially when looking at player cities though. Get 3-5 FPS when looking at AI cities now. Before patch I could be in player city with FRAPS running and still get 10-15 FPS.

EDIT: loading from Jobe to OA is definitely better though

    Similar set-up, same result.

Kind of frustrating considering there are some improvements, but over all so far, I would say the game runs worse for me now.

    Not good.
    why Why WHY ?!?!?!

  3. #23
Nvidia 6800GT ... marginally worse lag in some places, same in others ... horrendous in others. Its more like the lag migrated. Lag I used to get outside OA grid term is now on OA hill or after whompa'ing to VW. Haven't player much in Inferno or AI cities though (damn you UPH!).

    ...."Social" keys, lightbars, wen-wens......Better tabbing!

First of I know PC is old and crappy and I have always got bad framerates, but they seem to have halved in this patch.
Used to get 40fps or so inside mission pre patch now down to 18 or so, 20 or so FPS in borealis now 8-14 even in the empty areas, also now instead of 1 big stutter I get constant stuttering. Also it seems that AO is eating memory again as when I zone more than 4-5 times I have to relog as the slowdown become unbearable.
Aditional notes. When I enter zones like the City of Home it takes up to 2 minutes for the buildings to appear, however if I zone out of this playfield and make a few other zones when I return it all appears almost instantly leading me to beleive that it is being cached. When I checked my memory and pagefile usage today AO appeared to be eating 290mb of my 320mb RAM and 420mb of pagefile.

    PC specs:
    1.2ghz athlon thunderbird
    320mb RAM
    Geforce 1

Seem to have found the reason for the problems, this patch has reset ground quality to full from minimum.

    amd 3200+ (2.2ghz)
    nvidia 256mb 6600
    1gig ram

    slight improvement in Old Athen.
    no noticeable improvement in Borealis.
approximately 25% framerate facing player-cities whether i can see them or not.

  6. #26
    AMD Duron 1800
    NVIDIA GF 5600
    1GB RAM

No drops... in fact only alien cities are laggy as they were before, in other areas there is a great improvement.

  7. #27
    AMD Athlon 2.5+ (Barton core)
    ATI Radeon 9600xt 128mb
    1GB RAM

Huge drop in perfomance. Certain zones have become almost unplayable :S Framerate inside AI cities dropped to like 5-10.
On the bright side, indoor areas don't lag anymore; door lag is gone (talking about RK missions only); zoning takes like 3-5 seconds now.

ATi 9700Pro, AMD 3400, 512MB ram... trying to raid in one particular city I can't get above 12fps standing still no matter what I turn off. When aliens arrive & I have to move it's a real slideshow. Slightly better in some different cities, but still worse. Outdoors away from player cities I have no problems at all though. WTB new city building models

I haven't tried my laptop yet, it's a rather more powerful system with a nvidia card, I'll give it a quick test, but as it's not what I use for gaming I don't really have much of a reference.

Edit: with this untweaked setup in open countryside not looking at a city 50ish fps, turn round & it's 20, so I'd say both are pretty nerfed.

    Edit:
Was ok before emergency 16.4.1 patch i think

ATI X850Xt Pe 256 mb ... getting awful fps drops in cities, buildings takign a logn while to load, apart from the doors ( love runnign down shop row in OA with just loads of floating doors :X) and i havnt seen an improvement in door lag either .

Never had fps problems before its jsut awful now

    edit :
    pc specs
    3.2 ghz p4
    2.25 gigs ram
    x850xt pe

i can run 99% of new fps games with rendering and filtering settings close to max yet cant play a 5 year old game smoothly

    Just a note
The fps drop happens to as well, just like the rest.
This occurs only when facing player cities (they can be very far away or w/e) maybe some other big structures but I'm not saure about that. I can safely say that 100% of time when my fps drops on RK it is when I have a city towards me, if I turn 180 degrees (ok maybe even less) the FPS goes back up providing there isnt another city infront of me ofcourse

  12. #32
    Athlon 64 X2 4400+
    2GB RAM
    Radeon X850XT

No noticable lag changes in city outdoors. However, I have increased all my ground radius, view distance, texture settings etc and still have good framerates which wasn't possible before the patch. So I like that.

I do have one big problem though. My mouse is doing some wierd stutter stepping at times. Kind of skittish it seems. Changed out batteries since wireless and that didn't solve it so I think its the patch.

    Any ideas?

Massive Drop for me in PM/VW/NL and O-Forrest .. when the Halloween-Darkness was active, it was down to 1 frame every 2-3 secs.
Also, zoning a lot (doing halloweenmissions) caused extreme lag all over as well - 635MB Client Size and up to 995mb pagefile.

    Game is COMPLETELY unplayable.

    Windows XP
    Intel P4A 2700 MHz
    1024 MB DDR SDRAM
MSI 865PE Neo2-S Mobo (with Intel Springdale i865PE chipset)
ATi Radeon 9600 128 MB VRAM (Omega 3.8.252 Drivers)
    Maxtor 80GB 7200 RPM Ultra-ATA/133 HDD (2.5 GB Pagefile)

I logged on around 6 PM EST. I quit playing at 8:30 PM EST. In that amount of time, I never had FPS over 20 ANYWHERE (including inside shops, missions, and other instanced areas). I also had the same exact stuttering I had before the patch - plus the addition of the 'popping' mentioned, only in very slow motion (buildings would take 1-2 minutes to show up, meaning I had to stumble my way around unfamiliar areas on RK while doing Uncle Pumpkin Head missions). I completed 4 missions while having my client crash a total of 5 times (all of which resulted from being lagged for about 1-2 minutes straight and then the client closing itself).

The problem was compounded by the usual ATi bugs, such as the ground completely dissapearing (or disappearing in sections with certain textures not loading). In addition, every time I zoned I lost all of my textures and my GUI skin completely for about 5-10 seconds (sometimes up to 30). This is, of course, after I'd actually zoned, which took about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

To be honest, I love AO - it's the greatest game I've ever played. However, I'm really hoping some of these issues can be fixed... Otherwise, I'm going to have to find another game to play instead.

EDIT: If there's anything else you guys need, just go ahead and e-mail me. I'd seriously like to help. Seriously.

Game is absolutely fantastic for me most places. BUT the trees in rome shire nuke my frame rate,, and ONLY certain trees do it. The ones in the wester part of dcentral valey dont but the one in the eastern part do.

Player cities .. I actualy get better frame rates then before.

Nvidia 5500 pci vid card with 256 megs ram..

Pc a compaq puter in a box el cheapo... 768 megs of ram 2.53 ghz celeron d cpu . Game runs rather smooth now in most places.

    Windows Vista RC1

NVidia GeForce FX 5700LE (gimp card compared to rest of system :P)

It is true that the way objects are loading as you walk by is an overall good idea and gives a considerable performance boost. Problem is, it seems not all objects/textures/meshes and whatever actually load. I am using a Fujitsu-Siemens notebook equipped with an ATI Mobility FireGL T2e with 256 Mb of ram. My performance on this system was always impeccable although client is set at 1600x1200x32 with all effects on. Never had under 25fps. Not even in huge zerg. I would LD way before system could not refer. I am trying to stay positive here, although this really hits below the belt.
Turns out there is a visual bug which activates quite often, bug which apparently fixes itself when you re-log. These days I spend most of my time in Pandemonium at Zodiacs and Beast. So far I noticed a sure point where the bug “activates” is at left corner after stairs, right after the first portal (corner which leads to first middle/second middle). After that point, I can only look at N/NE/E. If I turn character anywhere else I get like under 1fps and some visual lag that renders the player unable to do anything. Even turning back toward a direction suitable can take up to 10-15s. Try to imagine how can one lead a raid in such conditions. Worst part is I can’t look back at my group of lemmings. Now leaving myself aside for a second here, one bad thing leads to another and then another. See, if it was a bug that only affected people sitting in garden or whatever it would be one thing, but a visual bug that affects high level player at the high-end raids, now that’s a problem with capital “P”. Trains, death, slacking, leaching, unable to lead, to follow are only some of the issues. This leads to a lot of frustration and a lot of unhappy people. This alone I think is reason enough to roll-over to previous version. Cleary this patch has issues, but this is not something new. Issues we can take assuming the game is still playable, assuming the player has a choice to do something else. Now, pande raiding isn’t something we do by choice if we can. It’s not an activity that can wait until Funcom decides to fix the issue and it doesn’t even affect only Pande raiding. It’s has the worst effects there, but also affects other outdoor activies. To name a few: apf, every ourdoor camping spot, outdoor tower fights (what do you expect? ppl not showing up to defend/attack), the wonderful pumpkin festivities and so on. Any area that has a sky, has a bug which makes player only able to turn 90 degrees within normal visual conditions. I never whined in other threads, never made jokes about hamsters, about server being on modem connections and whatever, but this absolutely beyond playing conditions. Please consider rolling back ASAP or fixing the bug ASAP. This CANNOT wait.

    Well lets begin....3 computers....

    #1 Athlon 64 3600+
    1.5G Ram
    Geforce 7800

Runs perfect except in meetmedeere and Coast of Peace. I enter either of those zones and drop to 5-10 fps no matter where I am in those zones. Did not have ths problem before patch. However over-all better performance everywhere else.

    #2 Twin to #1

Perfect everywhere BUT Meetmedere, horrible fps there. However I can enter Coast of Peace w/o a problem on that computer.

    #3 AMD 1.4Ghz AthlonXP
    1.5G Ram
    Geforce 5500FX
AO Runs from a seperate HD on this machine.

Max settings, everything and it doesnt slow down a bit anywhere, any zone, pf, city, whatever it absolutely screams with AO. I dunno what you guys did but previously I could not take a char into bori during prime time on that computer but now I can log my main in on it and run through Bori at top speed and it will never falter.
