Cannot patch, cannot reinstall,

First of all I'm not running a custom gui nor have I in the past. The game is installed in a folder on the root of my C: drive called simply "ao". When I came to install the latest patch I received an error message telling me that:

patch failed: old file does not exist. current file "cd_image\data\statels\6129.pf"

and after much swearing I deleted the old instalation and downloaded and installed the game from scratch again. Now the damn thing won't even patch to the current version... this on an install that's pristine, completely new, I'm getting the same error message from the patcher this time for rename.ini and now for 4335.pf at which point the patcher quits.

I'm very close to losing it! I've wasted hours trying to get the damn thing working.

Star Wars The Old Republic is coming out soon.
Then Warhammer 40k
I'm sure it will install just fine to your computer.
Nor will it have an "in-game store" where they sell you tokens/victory points.
It will also have an up-to-date engine.
