It has been an interesting month for us here in Olso. We have just endured what has been the coldest November in apparently 100 years. Many days of -15 so far...I'm hoping this doesn't turn into the coldest December in 100 years too.
When I end up standing in the server rooms here at the office it is never a good thing.
Had awhile to think about writing FWM this morning as we had yet another power out here at the office...took out the whole block. The gas station that feeds a lot of the FC developers was also without power for awhile. Interestingly enough if I had to guess this would be about the 7th time in the last 6 months. Though this is not *that* bad I'm beginning to understand how west-African sys-admins must feel. Every time the power goes down most of our build environment takes about 12 hours to get up and running again...as of course essential systems for work to continue in the entire building have to be fixed first. Today's power failure blew out one disk and actually managed to break one of the cooling fans on one of the old machines that is central to our archaic build system...so our hopes of deploying a build with Christmas goodies (and other adjustments) to TestLive just got a bit thinner. Parsed, our "Vice President of Patching" being out with the flu also makes this somewhat unlikely....but we'll still have ago at making it work. I definitely felt a disturbance in the force last night when I said "bah...we'll build the version tomorrow".
I am very jealous of members of the team who are on vacation in Thailand. Bastards.
Days like this make me think of Galaxy Quest..."Never give up...Never Surrender!"
Have a great weekend everyone!
